'The Tick' Clips: Destiny Is Calling Out To The Tick
Peter Serafinowicz has some big shoes to fill with the rebooted live-action version of The Tick. The character was last played by Patrick Warburton in the far too short-lived Fox television series. A scheduling conflict meant he couldn't play Ben Edlund's character again, but we're confident Serafinowicz will make for a fine replacement. The Tick pilot debuted on Amazon last night, but if you haven't seen it yet you can get a taste of Serafinowicz in action in two new clips from The Tick.
Edlund has previously said the new version of The Tick is "darker" and "more grounded." Those comments worried some fans of the character, but the first clips from the series don't have an overly seriously or gritty tone. Edlund probably meant the new show is more grounded than the previous series, because there a few laughs in these clips from the pilot, which was directed by Wally Pfister (Transcendence).

With his second chance at a live-action TV show for The Tick, Edlund wanted to make a few changes, including putting more emphasis on the hero's sidekick Arthur:
He's the main character. He's the one who has the arc. He's the one who gives us the shoes you wear to pass through this universe. In the previous live-action, there really wasn't the time taken to build what is usually a compelling main character story. So I mean The Tick is no less an important character than Arthur — he's titular — but it was really important to take this human character seriously and give us a chance to really bond with him and be with him emotionally and then have him encounter the strangest entity in his universe.
An executive producer on both live-action versions of The Tick, Barry Josephson said they're finally making the show they first imagined. If you want to see more this take on The Tick, then more than the character's fanbase is going to have to support the series, according to Josephson. As of now, the pilot is available on Amazon. If enough people watch it and voice their support, then the series will get the greenlight and we'll all get a full season of The Tick.
