Jeff Bridges Abides The Possibility Of 'The Big Lebowski' Sequel Or Spin-Off

Back in February, around the time Hail Caesar! was hitting theaters, the writing and directing duo of Joel & Ethan Coen made it very clear that they aren't interested in The Big Lebowski 2. Furthermore, they made no indication that the possibility of a follow-up about John Turturro's character Jesus was not in the cards, despite hopes that the actor had to write, direct and star in a spin-off. However, there is one important part of The Big Lebowski interested in the prospect of both of those projects.

Jeff Bridges is easily best known for his portrayal of The Dude or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing. And when he was recently asked about the possibility of reprising his role as the White Russian-loving bowler, Bridges thought both the idea of The Big Lebowski spin-off and a potential sequel sounded great.

First of all, despite the fact that the Coen brothers shot down the existence of John Turturro's potential Jesus spin-off, it appears the actor hasn't given up on making it. But the project has hit a bit of a snag. Earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Turturro about the project and he said, "It's a very complicated legal situation. Until things are all signed, you can't really talk about it. But we'll see."

The good news is that he wouldn't do this project against the wishes of Joel & Ethan Coen as it appears the directors have changed their tune about the project. They won't direct it, but Turturro says, "This would be something they would support with me." He also has the support of Bridges who told Business Insider, "I think it's a great idea," adding  that "it might be fun playing a little cameo as The Dude."

Beyond making an appearance in John Turturro's own spin-off, Bridges hopes one day to see The Big Lebowski 2 become a reality. In fact, he even has his own idea:

"I'm hoping they make a little Lebowski [sequel] because it's all set up. I impregnated Maude [Julianne Moore]. As The Stranger says, 'There's a little Lebowski on the way,' you know?"

Though it's nice to hear that Jeff Bridges would be enthusiastic about playing The Dude again, I think we're better off trusting Joel & Ethan Coen in their judgment that a sequel just isn't necessary. That doesn't mean it would be impossible for inspiration to strike them sometime down the road to make The Big Lebowski 2, but I can't imagine it being something as simple as following the Son of The Dude.
