Cool Stuff: Your Favorite Directors And Creators As Action Figures

Pop culture art gallery I Am 8Bit is doing a show with artist Jason Brockert called "Figures Of Action", featuring would-be toys inspired by iconoclasts & pop culture characters ranging from filmmakers like JJ Abrams (Star Trek, Star Wars) to show runners like Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad) to authors like George RR Martin (Game Of Thrones) to composers like John Williams (every great movie from your childhood) to comedians like Louie CK to video game designers like Shigeru Minamoto (Super Mario Bros).

The show had its opening night reception last night and now all the available original paintings and select limited edition prints are now online for anyone to purchase starting at just $20 (with worldwide shipping). After the jump, you can see a selection of the artwork on display at this exhibition and find out how you can purchase some of the paintings and prints online.

Here is just a sample of some of Jason Brockert's artwork from the "Figures of Action" art show at I Am 8Bit:

With all the niche collectible toy companies out there today like Super7, I'm kind of surprised that no one is making a line of filmmaker action figures. Mondo is making a super expensive and life-like Hot Toys-style Alfred Hitchcock, but I'd love to see a line of old school retro looking action figures featuring some of the creators from the 1970's through today. I know I would totally buy a Steven Spielberg or Guillermo Del Toro action figure if someone produced such a series.

As for the artwork from this show, you can purchase limited edition prints from the show for $20m or $30 while original paintings run around $300-$400. Check out IAm8Bit.com for more information, along with a ton of other artwork not spotlighted here. We only tried to spotlight the movie/tv related pieces. Not all of the art is director action figures, so head on over to Iam8Bit to check out the video game and political related pieces that are outside our usual realm of coverage.
