'Middle School: The Worst Years Of My Life' Trailer
Hollywood would have you believe that high school is the defining years of your life. Countless films follow teenagers as they look for the one magical thing that'll get them laid or get them out of town, and even a lot of adult films seem to be based on the notion that you are who you sat with in the high school cafeteria. But as Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life shows, the years leading up to high school can be just as traumatic in their own way.
Based on the YA novel by James Patterson, Middle School follows Rafe (Griffin Gluck), an artsy kid who transfers to a strict new school. Fed up with all of the oppressive rules, Rafe and his best friend Leo (Thomas Barbusca, a.k.a. the Burp King of Westchester) plot to break every single rule in the school's code of conduct. Surrounding Rafe and Leo are a hilarious adult cast including Andy Daly, Adam Pally, Retta, Rob Riggle, and Lauren Graham. Watch the Middle School trailer after the jump.

Middle School feels very much like a movie aimed at kids, but there's plenty for adults to enjoy here as well. Starting with that cast. Daly is absolutely the perfect choice to play an oblivious, order-obsessed principal, and if you haven't seen his Comedy Central series Review you absolutely should. And I'm really excited to see more from Barbusca, who stole scenes right out from under veteran comedians three times his age in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day at Camp.Middle School opens October 7.
Rafe has an epic imagination...and a slight problem with authority. Both collide when he transfers to an oppressive, rule-crazy middle school. Drowning in do's and don'ts, Rafe and his scheming best friend Leo hatch a plan to break every rule in the school's Code of Conduct. It's Ferris Bueller meets Home Alone as their battle with Principal Dwight explodes into chaos both real and imagined. But Dwight displays his own fiendish creativity, striking back at the rulebreakers. Meanwhile, Rafe struggles to hide his misbehavior from Jeanne, the straight-A, overachieving girl of his dreams, and at home, his mother's boyfriend — a moochy, jack-of-no-trades named Bear — threatens to become his stepfather.
