THR reported the War for the Planet of the Apes Judy Greer news. Greer joined the franchise in 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, replacing Devyn Dalton who'd played Cornelia in 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Cornelia, in case you need a refresher, is the kind and loving wife to Caesar, and the mother of his sons Blue Eyes and Milo.Planet of the Apes Judy Greer

One of the weirdest mini-trends in Hollywood recently has casting Greer in big-budget sci-fi blockbusters, only to totally underutilize her. It happened in Jurassic WorldAnt-Man, and Tomorrowland this summer, and it happened in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes last summer. As great as it is to see her get steady work, here's hoping she actually gets something to do in War.

Meanwhile, Konoval comes back as Maurice after portraying the character in both previous installments of the series. Like Cornelia, Maurice met Caesar at the San Bruno Primate Shelter during the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Despite his imposing figure and fearsome strength, Maurice is a gentle soul, and takes a kinder view of humans than many of his brethren.

The two actresses join Andy Serkis, who returns as series lead Caesar, and Steve Zahn, who's playing a new ape character. Woody Harrelson plays a human villain known as the Colonel, and Gabriel Chavarria is on board as a more sympathetic human character. Dawn of the Planet of the ApesMatt Reeves returns as director. Shooting on War for the Planet of the Apes is already underway, for release on July 14, 2017.
