VOTD: Daft Punk Meets 'Star Wars' In 'Darth Punk: The Funk Awakens' Music Video
There's plenty of Star Wars mash-ups out there online, but most them simply take real footage from the movies and remixes it with other audio and video. However, it's always a little more impressive when someone creates an original video with Star Wars influences.
And that's exactly what's so cool about Darth Punk: The Funk Awakens, a Star Wars Daft Punk hybrid music video by Infectious Designer that takes elements from a galaxy far, far away and mixes them with an electro-punk underworld. If you like neon, shiny helmets and lightsabers, you'll enjoy this little production.
Before you watch the music video in question, watching this short intro for context couldn't hurt:
Here's Darth Punk: The Funk Awakens (via Geekologie):
The video sees Darth Vader and Boba Fett disguised as an electronic music duo, who begin pursuing a woman for an unknown reason, arresting ears and administering intergalactic rhythm and beats in the process. And lo and behold, she's a Jedi with a whole crew that comes to back her up.
There's some really great production value and design here and also very flashy and cool visual effects. Part of me wishes the music in question would have taken cues from John Williams' score, but there are at least Star Wars sound effects placed throughout the video every now and then, not to mention the presence of some familiar helmets, weapons and Force powers.
For those curious about their inspiration, the costumes came first back in 2012 at DragonCon, and once they had some stylish 3.0 versions, they decided a music video was wholly necessary. If you want to know how they pulled off this cool little video, there's a behind the scenes featurette right here.
