First Look: Alexandre Aja's 'The 9th Life Of Louis Drax' Starring Jamie Dornan

Although Fifty Shades of Grey is getting all the buzz, it's not the only movie Jamie Dornan has out this year. He's also in Alexandre Aja's The 9th Life of Louis Drax, along with Aaron Paul and Sarah Gadon.

As in Fifty Shades of Grey, Dornan plays a handsome hero who gets all conflicted over a beautiful woman. But that's where the similarities stop. Dornan's 9th Life of Louis Drax character isn't a kinky billionaire, but a doctor who steps in after a kid falls into a coma. Get your The 9th Life of Louis Drax first look after the jump.

Empire unveiled The 9th Life of Louis Drax first look. Aja and his Horns star Max Minghella wrote the screenplay, based on the novel by Liz Jensen. Interestingly, Minghella's father Anthony Minghella was developing the script (with Sydney Pollack) before he passed away in 2008.Jamie Dornan in The 9th Life of Louis Drax

Is it a bad sign for Fifty Shades of Grey that Dornan looks more attractive here than he has in any of the marketing materials for that movie?

The thing attached to his head is a bit of technology that Dornan's character Allen Pascal is using to delve into the mind of his young comatose patient (played by Aiden Longworth). The kid's dad (Paul) is suspected of causing the fall that led to his injury, but as Allen goes deeper he realizes the truth may be more complicated.

Though this first image is pretty tame, knowing Aja we're probably in for a pretty wild ride. Speaking to EW, the director described the tone as somewhat Hithcockian. His star Gadon concurs. "It reminded me of films like Vertigo or Bunny Lake Is Missing," she told Empire

Aja also promises we'll see a different side of Dornan. "He's playing this leading male who is torn between his feelings for Louis' mother and a desire to shine the light on something that is dark and scary," he said. "It's definitely something he's never done before."

The 9th Life of Louis Drax doesn't yet have a U.S. release date, but it'll probably start making the rounds sometime this year.

The 9th Life of Louis Drax begins on Louis Drax's (Longworth) 9th birthday, when he miraculously survives a near fatal fall. His doctor Allan Pascal (Dornan) finds himself tangled between his professional responsibility and his growing affections for the boy's mother (Gadon), a fragile young beauty. When Louis' father (Paul) comes under suspicion, Pascal realizes other mysterious forces may be at work.
