Here's How 'Agent Carter' Links To 'Iron Man 2'
One of the coolest things about watching a new Marvel show or movie is finding the links to the universe. Both the movies and TV shows build these bridges on occasion. This week's Agent Carter was no exception. There were a ton of links to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, mostly centered on Captain America: The First Avenger. But there was also a pretty huge link to Iron Man 2. Did you catch it? Read about the Agent Carter Iron Man 2 easter egg below.
On the show, there was a Stark Industries employee named Dr. Anton Vanko, played by Costa Ronin. Ivan Vanko, of course, is the name of Mickey Rourke's Iron Man 2 character who turns into the evil Whiplash. Ivan is Anton's son.
At the beginning of Iron Man 2, Ivan Vanko is talking to his father Anton (played by an older actor, Eugene Lazarev) who explains he, along with Howard Stark, created the Arc Reactor. It's that knowledge, and the blueprints of the reactor, that set off the events in that movie.
News of the Agent Carter Iron Man 2 easter egg broke in November. Now that the show has aired, we figured it was worth pointing out.
What we don't know is if the younger Agent Carter version of Vanko will have a bigger role in upcoming episodes. Nor do we know if we'll see he and Stark working together to create the technology that Howard Stark's son will later use to power the Iron Man suit.
Agent Carter will air on Tuesday night's for the next few weeks before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comes back. The preview for the season showed the Howling Commandos, Captain America's group of fighters, so you can be sure there are going to be lots of additional references to the Marvel universe. What I'm curious about is if any of these connections give a deeper context to any of the characters (besides Peggy herself, of course) or will they just be kind of surface?
