VIDEO: Liam Neeson Spitballs A Possible Qui-Gon Jinn 'Star Wars' Spinoff Movie
We all know that Qui-Gon Jinn dies at the end of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. A few of us also know the character endured in the franchise, appearing to Yoda, Obi-Wan and Anakin during The Clone Wars. It was he who figured out how to become one in the Force and appear as a ghost. Which he did, several times.
When Qui-Gon returned for The Clone Wars cartoon (which is canon, just like the movies) Liam Neeson too returned to provide the voice. He's proud of the character and in a new interview, was asked if he would return as the character in a potential standalone movie. He, of course, said "Yes" but also raises the smart question of "Is there actually a way to do it?" Not to mention, he's got a few issues with the lightsaber of Kylo Ren. I think Neeson makes a great, great point here. Yes, if given the opportunity he'd return to the character. But Star Wars is all about story and almost everything that's coming is intended to move the story forward. There's most likely not a Qui-Gon story that could actually move the story forward.
Seeing the character before Episode I, with him as the apprentice to Count Dooku, would be cool. Learning more about how he become so in tune with The Force might be nice, but odds are none of that is going to get its own movie. Then again, The Force obviously is going to be a big part of things moving ahead and maybe at some point Finn or whomever learns about the Jedi who learned to cheat death, Qui-Gon Jinn.
I think Liam Neeson might reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn again at some point, but I would not hold my breath for a standalone movie.
