Release Dates: 'Independence Day 2' And Seth Rogen Christmas Comedy Moved; 'Hitman' Delayed

There is a whole crop of new and in some cases changed release dates, as studios including Paramount, Fox and The Weinstein Company have shuffled around dates for the end of this year and going all the way into late 2015. The big changes are significant pushes for Hot Tub Time Machine 2 and Hitman: Agent 47, but there's a lot more, including date tweaks for Independence Day 2, Paddington, and the Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Chrismas movie. Paramount has pushed Hot Tub Time Machine 2 from a Christmas release this year to a February 20 release in 2015.

Along with that Hot Tub move, Paramount has also pushed Scouts vs. Zombies from February 20 all the way back to October 30, 2015.

On the Fox side, Independence Day 2 will no longer have the Fourth of July weekend in 2016. Instead, it will open just a bit earlier, on June 24. That puts it up against Universal's new The Mummy, and gets ID4-2 out of the way of films such as Steven Spielberg's The BFG and the new Tarzan. But more importantly, the new Independence Day film will now have more than one week before the July 8, 2016 opening of one of Marvel's films.

The Weinstein Company has delayed Paddington again. First there was a push when the voice of Paddington was recast, and now the film has been bumped from a Christmas Day release this year to January 16, 2015.

Going along with that push, the animated soccer film Underdogs, from The Secret in Their Eyes director Juan J. Campanella, has been pushed back to an April 10 2015 opening in the US.

Fox has also pushed Hitman: Agent 47 from a February 2015 opening to August 28 2015. The video game adaptation, starring Rupert Friend and Zachary Quinto will compete against Regression, with Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson.

The Transporter Legacy has been pushed from February 27, 2015 to March 6, 2015.

Finally, via Box Office Mojo, the Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Christmas movie directed by their 50/50 director Jonathan Levine has been pulled up by two weeks. Originally set for December 11 of this year, the film will now open on November 25. The film hasn't settled on a title, but we know that Levine scripted with Evan Goldberg, Kyle Hunter & Ariel Shaffir. Here's the synopsis:

Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth Rogen) and Chris (Anthony Mackie) have been friends since childhood, and for a decade, their yearly Christmas Eve reunion has been an annual night of debauchery and hilarity. Now that they're entering adulthood, the tradition is coming to an end, and to make it as memorable as possible, they set out to find the Nutcracka Ball – the Holy Grail of Christmas parties.
