'Paranormal Activity 5' Gets Official Title And 2015 Release Date

After lots of back and forth over what the fifth, official, Paranormal Activity film would be and when we'd see it, Paramount has finally got their demons in a row. Paranormal Activity 5 will be called Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and will open on March 13, 2105, which is a little early than we'd expected. Read more about the film, as well as the release date shift for Scouts vs. Zombies, below.

The Wrap first posted the news. Paranormal Activity 5 was originally going to open Halloween 2014, then was moved to 2016.Greg Plotkin, editor and co-producer of the last three installments as well as the upcoming spin-off, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, will helm Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, which is expected to continue the franchise's main story of the kidnapping demon Katie (played by Katie Featherston).

The biggest question here is what could "The Ghost Dimension" refer to? (SPOILERS FOR THE PARANORMAL ACTIVITY SERIES COMING). We last saw Katie at the end of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, which was a spin-off of the first four films. One of the characters from that film ended up appearing in the house from the first Paranormal Activity which, director Christopher Landon confirmed, set up a new timeline for the entire franchise.

It also opened up the idea of time travel, so that might be something of what "The Ghost Dimension" refers to. Either way, it sounds like the normal idea of camera in a house is going away for Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension.

Also part of this news is that Scouts vs. Zombies, the horror comedy directed by Landon, has moved off its March 2015 release date up to February 20. That means Paramount will have three small budget genre movies in subsequent months next year (Project Almanac opens in January). And while competition is generally soft at that time of year, Paranormal Activity 5 now finds itself up against Disney's Cinderella and the new Ron Howard movie. At least it's counter programming.

What do you think of the title Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension? Are you looking forward to the new film in the franchise?
