'Nightcrawler' Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal Makes A Living Off Blood And Death

Nightcrawler stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a guy who discovers that his intense work ethic and lightweight moral sense combine to make him a talent in the field of shooting bottom-feeding TV news. Initially unsuccessful in his job hunt, a chance encounter with a news team led by Bill Paxton leads Gyllenhaal's character to start gathering news on his own... and perhaps even tweaking it a bit, as this new Nightcrawler trailer suggests. The film was recently moved to an October 31 opening; see the new trailer below. This trailer only runs a standard two minutes, but at the halfway mark it starts to feel as if it is giving a lot away. I quit watching about a minute in, as this has turned into a film I'm hoping I can see with some surprises preserved. If you feel the same way, let the first minute of this trailer work, and then perhaps pause before it goes all the way.

Nightcrawler opens on October 31. Trailer via Yahoo. Rene Russo and Riz Ahmed also co-star; Dan Gilroy directs.

Lou Bloom, an ambitious young man desperate for work, discovers the world of L.A. crime journalism. When Lou learns of a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles his way into the dangerous realm of night crawling, where a police siren wail means a possible windfall, and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Nina, a local TV news veteran, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant.
