'The Liberator' Trailer: Édgar Ramírez Fights For Freedom
That shot above looks like it could almost be Édgar Ramírez as Jon Snow from Game of Thrones, but in reality it is Ramírez as Simón Bolívar in the film The Liberator (aka Libertador). Or, if you want to be proper about it, the image shows Ramírez as Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios Ponte y Blanco, who lived from 1783 to 1830 and was one of the most important military leaders in Latin America's effort to shrug off colonial Spanish rule. Now Bolívar is the subject of a biopic. Despite having the intensely talented Ramírez to play the man, the film seems like it is cut right from the mold of so many other biographic films. To get an idea of how it all came together, watch The Liberator trailer below.
Lot of production value on display there, and the story itself is fascinating. But the film looks like it goes about its business in a very by the numbers manner. Like some of those shots of the military forces in movement, this seems like a quick flyover of the large conflict. Hopefully there are some good performances in there that the trailer doesn't really highlight.
The Liberator is scheduled for release on August 22. Trailer via Yahoo! Movies.
Edgar Ramirez stars as Bolivar, one of the key figures in Latin America's struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire. The film is told from the viewpoint of Bolívar, following his quests and epic military campaigns, which covered twice the territory Alexander the Great conquered, and his vision to unify South America.
