'Home' Trailer: Rihanna And Jim Parsons Are Earth's Best Hope
Jim Parsons and Rihanna don't seem like the likeliest of besties, but in the new Home trailer, that's kind of the point. He plays Oh, an alien who's been exiled from his own kind; she's Tip, a resourceful girl down here on Earth.
Their paths cross when Oh's people, the Boov, try to conquer her planet. Tip is one of the few humans who've resisted capture, and she and Oh team up to save the day. Steve Martin also stars, as the self-important leader of the Boov. Watch the Home trailer after the jump.
Some of the jokes are eyeroll-worthy (I could've done without "My hands are in the air like I just do not care"), but for the most part Home looks like a winner. The animation looks bright and sharp, the creature designs are inventive and adorable (and very, very merchandisable), and Oh's backstory is the perfect combination of hilarious and tragic. Tip's personality is less well defined, but with several months to go until the film's release we have plenty of time to get to know her better.
For some background on the Boovs' search for a new planet, be sure to check out the previously released short Almost Home, starring Martin's conceited Captain Smek.
Home lands in theaters March 27, 2015. Tim Johnson (Over the Hedge) directed.
When Earth is taken over by the overly-confident Boov, an alien race in search of a new place to call home, all humans are promptly relocated, while all Boov get busy reorganizing the planet. But when one resourceful girl, Tip (Rihanna), manages to avoid capture, she finds herself the accidental accomplice of a banished Boov named Oh (Jim Parsons). The two fugitives realize there's a lot more at stake than intergalactic relations as they embark on the road trip of a lifetime.
