Sigourney Weaver Could Imagine 'Alien 5' Happening In The Future

By now, most fans have come to terms with the fact that Ripley's Alien story is over. After four films, the character has been put through the ringer numerous times. She's lost everyone she ever loved, died, been resurrected, and more. It seems the people who control the franchise had long since moved beyond her story, instead focusing on prequels in Prometheus. But the star herself doesn't think it's over.

Speaking at the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival, Sigourney Weaver said she "could imagine a situation where we finish telling the story" and that she feels "like there is more story to tell." Read the full Sigourney Weaver Alien 5 quotes below.

Weaver said the following at the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival, as reported by the LA Times. Here are the two quotes:

Had we done a fifth one, I don't doubt that her humanity would have prevailed.... I do feel like there is more story to tell.

And this:

I feel a longing from fans for the story to be finished. I could imagine a situation where we finish telling the story.

Now, it seems both of these quotes are more Weaver speculating as an actress, rather than her sharing some kind of intimate, secret knowledge about what's happening with the Alien IP. We know there's a sequel to Prometheus coming, but that's a prequel to the events in Alien and maybe not even directly related yet. A fifth Alien, one with Ripley, feels more like a fan idea than a real film at this point. But Weaver's desire to return to the franchise could be the spark that gets producers or screenwriters working on continuing the story.

After the last three installments though (Prometheus included), I'm not sure a fifth Alien is something I want to see. I'd rather see a movie inspired by the DNA of Alien. That gave us movies like Blade Runner and The Terminator, which are slightly more exciting than Alien Resurrection.
