David Gordon Green Attached To Direct College Football Drama 'Score'
David Gordon Green is looking to play ball again with Eastbound & Down's Don Johnson. Only this time, they'll be teaming up for a college football drama instead of a baseball comedy.
Titled Score, the new streaming project has Green attached to direct from a script by Johnson. It's unclear right now whether it's a TV series or a movie, but either way it has our attention. Hit the jump to find out what Johnson had to say about it.
It's called Score and it's set in the '80s, and it's about the rise of big-time college football. I play this outrageous fucking coach who breaks all the rules and recruits basically criminals and everybody else and shoots the finger [extends middle finger in my direction] to the NCAA.
Which sounds pretty promising, but it sounds like Score is still in the early stages. Johnson explained:
I wrote it in October and I wanna get it financed completely so I can go to the marketplace without layers and layers of executives and bureaucrats. In my mind if you're not bringing something to the dance, but you're taking a big chunk of the cash, I got no room for you.
Green recently made his return to dramas after a long stretch of comedies like Pineapple Express, Your Highness, The Sitter, and of course, the aforementioned Eastbound & Down. Score sounds like an interesting opportunity for him to work with Johnson again, in an entirely different context.
Green's most recent release was the grim Southern drama Joe, and he has the Al Pacino drama Manglehorn due out next. Beyond that, he's set to direct the Amazon pilot Red Oaks, being produced by Steven Soderbergh.
