Hugh Jackman Maybe Wants To Keep Playing Wolverine After All

A few weeks ago, Hugh Jackman told press that he was "99.9% sure" that the next Wolverine movie would be his last outing as the (nearly) ageless mutant. But now that the X-Men: Days of Future Past press tour is in full swing, that remaining 0.01% seems to be gaining ground.

Jackman has since backtracked a bit on his comments, saying that he's "less sure" about wanting to hang up his claws. In fact, he's hoping that Wolverine will eventually get a chance to team up with the Avengers. Read his comments after the jump.

At one point, you're right, I said I was pretty sure. But I'm less sure as it goes along. Because after seeing this movie, the whole thing feels fresher to me than ever. And during this movie...I don't want to spoil anything, but it's kind of like a clean slate, so who knows where it's going to go. As long as I have the passion for it, and the fans will have me.

Jackman even has some ideas about what Wolverine should do next, as he revealed in a separate chat with IGN.

I would love to see him as part of The Avengers. Because there's a great dysfunction among that team, and I think Wolverine would fit right into that. He'd like that. [...] There's no doubt he'd get in a fight with Hulk at some point. Those two bad, rage-filled characters are going to square off at some point. It would be quite fun. I don't know how much fun to shoot it would be because I'm sure I'd be on the worst end of it, but hey, he can heal.

As for non-physical confrontation, Jackman added that he wanted to see Logan and Tony Stark banter back and forth.

Given that there are no official plans for a crossover between the X-Men and Avengers franchises, Jackman's probably just spitballing here. Still, he's definitely singing a different tune than he was a few weeks ago — one that's maybe not unrelated to the fact that he's got a new X-Men movie to promote.

X-Men: Days of Future Past opens this weekend.
