Hans Zimmer May End Up Scoring 'Batman Vs. Superman'
Hans Zimmer provided the emotional sound of Christopher Nolan's Batman films, and he he helped build the soul of Zack Snyder's new Superman, too, for Man of Steel. But Zimmer has been reluctant to commit to the Batman vs. Superman film that acts as sequel to Man of Steel, because it will bridge his own Superman, and a new version of Batman. It's a strange spot to be in for a composer. Yet it seems that whatever reservations the composer had are now slipping away, as he says in a recent interview that he's going to work on ideas for Batman vs. Superman.Speaking with Digital Spy, Hans Zimmer confirms that Zack Snyder has asked him to return, and that he's going to head to the set of Snyder's new movie in an attempt to come up with possible approaches once Interstellar is done.
We've already had a couple of chats, and once I finish the movie that I shall not talk about I will probably head over to where Zack is shooting his movie and just hang out a bit and see if we can come up with any ideas... [A new Batman theme is] my problem, that's my dilemma. I don't want to betray, if that's the right word, the Dark Knight movies. That was Christian, it was Christian's role. It's not just that it was nine years of our lives, so you want to stay honest and honourable to that period. So it's really about, 'Is there something else I can find that I haven't tapped into?' Which I don't know until I sit down with Zack."
Zimmer had previously expressed reservations about doing the Batman vs. Superman score to Collider:
It's creating a bit of a problem in my head right now. Quite honestly, I've gotta sit down with Zack and have a chat with him about what he's trying to do because what I don't want to do is go back to that well. It's a different Batman; Christian Bale and what I did with Chris, that needs to have its autonomous life. I don't want to go and now appropriate that and put that into the other Batman.
So he's still got the same core feeling, of not wanting to betray the work he did with Nolan, but now Zimmer seems to be approaching the question from a more positive angle.
Batman vs. Superman, or whatever the film ends up being called, is set for release on May 6, 2016 in the US, and one week earlier, April 29, in the UK.
