'Divergent' Gets An Extended TV Spot For The Olympics

For the past two weeks, we've been watching brave, determined souls push their bodies to the absolute limit for the sake of national pride. But even Sochi Winter Olympians have it easy compared to the heroine of Divergent, who's fighting for her very life in a society determined to wipe her kind off the map.

Summit has released a new extended TV spot for the Olympics, which emphasizes just how much danger Tris (Shailene Woodley) is in, and exactly how dangerous she herself can be. Watch it after the jump.

Honestly, I still can't get past the idea that Tris is a threat to society because she has more than one personality trait. Hopefully the film does a better job of explaining this premise than the trailers have.

YA adaptations are hotter than ever, but they're still far from a sure thing. For every Hunger Games-sized juggernaut, there are a dozen Vampire Academys and Mortal Instruments-es. And with so many other dystopian teen adventures coming down the pipeline (this year alone brings The Maze Runner, The Giver, and another Hunger Games sequel), Divergent will have a tough time standing out.

On the other hand, Divergent seems to have far more buzz than most of the other titles in its category, and it has a very winning star in Woodley. Maybe it won't smash box office records, but it could turn a respectable profit and attract a healthy fanbase. Summit certainly thinks so — it already has a sequel, Insurgent, in the works, with Robert Schwentke directing from a script rewritten by Akiva Goldsman.
