WTF: Quentin Tarantino Is Not Going To Play Roger Corman In Biopic [Updated]

Update: Joe Dante has taken to Twitter to debunk this report:

Quentin is a great filmmaker and a good friend, however there is absolutely no truth to the stories that he is going to play Roger Corman.

Joe Dante (Gremlins) is putting together a biopic of prolific indie producer and career kickstarter Roger Corman, and naturally he's decided to hire Quentin Tarantino, noted as an actor of tremendous range, to play Corman in the film. Tarantino doesn't look anything like Corman — at best, the filmmaker he most resembles is Dario Argento — but there's no reason that should hinder the plan. We'll trust in Dante and wait to see what the scheme is.

The Telegraph talked to Corman, and reports that the producer says Tarantino is set to play him. We've known that Tarantino had talked about the possibility of playing Corman, but this is a more reliable report. Corman isn't quoted saying more about Tarantino, but he does give some context for the film:

It's the story of how I made The Trip in the 1960s, about LSD. It starred Jack Nicholson in one of his first roles and I took LSD so I knew what it was all about. It was very controversial but it was the only American picture invited to the Cannes Film Festival that year. I have a cameo role in the movie about it, playing the executive who didn't want me to make the film.

Tarantino certainly knows a lot about Corman, and he has a great reverence for the man and his work. That's not necessarily the best position from which to approach playing him on screen, but we'll see what happens.
