Guillermo Del Toro Says 'Dark Universe' Could Share Continuity With 'Man Of Steel'

With Guillermo del Toro's new film Pacific Rim out this week, there's sure to be tons of news on his upcoming projects. He'll next direct the star-studded haunted house thriller Crimson Peak, but he also continues to work on Dark Universe (aka Justice League Dark), the DC Comics inspired team up featuring some of the more supernatural characters in the DC Universe such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, the Demon, Deadman, the Spectre and Zatanna.

Del Toro confirmed not much has changed since our last update on the film. He's still writing a big outline and waiting for their ideal screenwriter to become available. One thing that has changed, however, is that the DC Cinematic Universe has kicked off in a new way with the release of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. Del Toro says, though nothing is set in stone yet, he'd definitely like his film to have continuity with Man of Steel and whatever else DC has in store.

Here's del Toro's interview with MTV where he mentions this.

And here's his exact quote:

The great thing about the Dark Universe is you have this possibility of basically creating a supernatural group and you can play by different rules, but I would love to see the DC Universe become as cohesive as the Marvel filmic universe. So if there's any correlation, I will honor it.

Until del Toro actually hires a writer, and we learn more about what Warner Bros. has planned for DC after Man of Steel and Man of Steel 2, this hypothetical connective tissue is nothing more than smoke. However, del Toro is probably geekier than all of us combined so you know he'd love to figure out a way to tie his characters in with the regular Justice League.
