Joss Whedon Suggests Loki Is Not In 'The Avengers 2'

Loki memorably made his debut in Thor and then even more memorably provided the Hulk with some Asgardian rag-doll action in Joss Whedon's The Avengers. And we know the character has a significant role in Thor: The Dark World, which hits this fall.

But if you're expecting Loki to reprise his villainous role in The Avengers 2, might be time to come up with a new expectation. Whedon is talking more and more about his team-up sequel — which is still quite a way off, with release planned for 2015 — and he seems to say that Loki won't have a role.

Speaking on the Empire podcast, Whedon addressed some expectations for the Avengers sequel, and suggests that Loki won't be around:

Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment [in Avengers 2] and you'll be looking for "quim."  First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki's not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back. Not as an insult, it's just a nice word.

There's a lot that can happen between now and the film's shoot, but if nothing else, bringing Loki back would be to tread over a lot of established ground, and that doesn't seem to be Whedon's interest. That's a good thing; hell, we don't even know what shape Loki will be in at the end of this year's Thor sequel.
