Glenn Close Could Join James Gunn's 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'

The Guardians of the Galaxy are either going to report to John C. Reilly or Glenn Close. Or maybe John C. Reilly and Glenn Close. It's not exactly clear which actor is up for what role but after news broke over the weekend that John C. Reilly was up for a role as a go between for the cosmic superteam and S.H.I.E.L.D. back on Earth, now it seems Glenn Close is up for a similar role. Reportedly, James Gunn's script calls multiple parts that serve a similar purpose.

Deadline broke the news of Close's possible casting. They describe the role as "a leadership role in Nova Corp, the intergalactic space patrol" and "the closest thing to the one that Samuel L. Jackson plays in Marvel's Avengers movie." That's very similar to how HitFix described the role Reilly is up for, except that article mentioned Reilly's character, Rhomann Dey, would be the leader and he'd have a partner. (That article also mentioned Dey was the leader of the Nova Corps in the comics.)

Marvel was apparently out to a slew of well-known actors for the partner role and Close might be it. Or it could be a similar role that doesn't interact with the Reilly character. Odds are we'll have to wait for Marvel to release a full cast list before we can know for sure. Filming starts in a few weeks, and that's usually when all the cats are let out of the bag.
