Shailene Woodley Finishes Shooting Her Small Role As Mary Jane In 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Mary Jane Watson plays a significant role in the Spider-Man universe as a whole, but apparently she won't be such a big part of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Though it wasn't that long ago that we started seeing pictures of Shailene Woodley on set with MJ's signature red locks, she's now wrapped her part of the film and is already moving on to her next project.

So what exactly will we see of Mary Jane in the new film, and what does that mean for the next two installments of Marc Webb's comic book franchise? Hit the jump to keep reading, but be warned that spoilers for the next two movies follow.

But it sounds like Webb is carefully laying the groundwork for MJ to be an important part of Peter's life for the third movie. Among other things, paparazzi have snapped photos of MJ and Gwen shaking hands, MJ riding around on her motorcycle, MJ waiting tables at Eisenberg's Sandwich Shop, and MJ wielding a mallet.

While it's always possible Woodley could get called back for some reshoots, the bulk of her work on The Amazing Spider-Man is definitely finished. She's already traded the red locks for blond, as she's off to play the lead role in Summit's YA adaptation Divergent. That film co-stars Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, and Maggie Q, and shoots in Chicago this spring.

Andrew Garfield leads the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, along with Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper, Paul Giamatti, Jamie Foxx, Sally Field, and Felicity Jones. The movie lands May 2, 2014.
