Watch: 'The Matrix' In 60 Seconds

We've been watching with interest as the Wachowskis move forward on their next film, Jupiter Ascending, but it'll be some time yet before we find out how their efforts actually pan out. The project hasn't begun shooting, and likely won't hit theaters until 2014 or later. In the meantime, then, we can look back at the film that started it all — The Matrix.

While the sci-fi actioner wasn't the Wachowskis' first directorial effort, it was the one that made the siblings a household name. At over two hours long, though, it's not the easiest film to revisit on a hectic weekday evening. Fortunately, this new speedrun by 1A4 Studio provides a handy refresher in just 60 seconds. Okay, so this version doesn't really reflect the style of the original. Like, at all. No one's wearing a leather trenchcoat, the action bears little resemblance to wire fu, and there isn't even one instance of bullet time. It's got its own kicky little vibe, though. The creators describe it thusly: "Put machines, dreams, Neo, dystopia, and more machines into a blender and chug it really fast – that's the taste of this condensed version of the 1999 hit movie."

The 60-second version probably won't make much sense to anyone who hasn't seen the original film, but for the rest of us it's an entertaining new perspective on the familiar tale. And I think a fairly faithful one, though my memory of the actual movie is admittedly kind of rusty at this point.

As for the real Wachowskis, Jupiter Ascending continues to add promising talent both in front of and behind the camera. Sean Bean, Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, and Eddie Redmayne are among the cast, and it was announced today that Michael Giacchino would score. If it proves popular enough, perhaps we'll get an 1A4 version of it in a few years.
