Jason Segel And 'Iron Man 3' Writer Drew Pearce Team For 'The Other F Word'
Andrea Blaugrund Nevins's 2011 documentary The Other F Word explored the awkward, and often hilarious transition from famous rock star to fatherhood. It followed musicians like Blink-182's Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea and Rise Against's Tim McIlrath as they went from drink-all-day, party-all-night rock stars to fathers with responsibilities. And if you think that sounds like an idea ripe for Hollywood parody, you'd be 100% right.
Jason Segel and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) just sold a comedic remake of The Other F Word to 20th Century Fox. The pair will co-write and executive produce with Segel set to star. Read more after the jump.Deadline first posted a story about the film, which the original director describes as follows:
What happens when a generation's ultimate anti-authoritarians — punk rockers– become society's ultimate authorities — dads? With a large chorus of punk rock's leading men – Blink-182's Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, Rise Against's Tim McIlrath- The Other F Word follows Jim Lindberg, 20-year veteran of skate punk band Pennywise, on his hysterical and moving journey from belting his band's anthem, 'Fuck Authority', to embracing his ultimately pivotal authoritarian role in mid-life, fatherhood.
And here's the trailer for the original film.
The idea is just so chock-full of obvious and hilarious situations, from kids walking in on daddy partying to rock stars changing diapers and, of course, it has that sweet message at the end that kids are life's true treasure. Everything about it seems too good to be true, which is probably why Segel and Pearce reportedly had several other studios interested before Fox finally won.
Now the big questions become, can they keep that title? Does the film feature real life rock stars too? Who will direct? And how hard will the executives push for Russell Brand to be in it?
Have you seen The Other F Word? Do you agree it's a home run remake idea?
