Dwayne Johnson And Barry Sonnenfeld Could Team For 'Lore'

We think we're alone in the world but we're not. In reality, there is a secret organization of people who are tasked with fighting an enemy we've all heard of but don't actually know exists. If that sounds like the plot to Men in Black, you're right, but it's also Lore, a newly acquired Warner Bros. property based on a graphic novel by T.P. Louise and Ashley Wood. It shares characteristics with MIB but, instead of aliens, humans are protected from mythical creatures of the past.

The film version might soon share a director with that other franchise as Barry Sonnenfeld is now in talks to direct the film with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as one of the Shepherds, a group who defends humanity from mythical creatures. Read more after the jump.

Deadline broke the news of this possible deal, which is still in early stages. When the film was originally acquired in April, screenwriters Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott were adapting the novel which goes between detailed prose diaries and full-blown comic book panels. Here's the official description:

In times past, the world was full of mythical creatures – creatures long since banished and held at bay by the secret society of Shepherds. But when the generational line of Shepherds is broken, a reluctant hero finds her life threatened from every quarter. And the creatures are coming back...

Several studios were in the mix earlier in the year and Warner Bros. got the property in a seven figure deal with Johnson attached. Sonnenfeld has certainly shown exhibited a talent for this type of effects-heavy action plot, but isn't his attachment too obvious? Isn't there someone out there who could give us more than Men in Black 4? Hopefully Sonnenfeld has an idea that will seperate this film from his other work.
