'Pacific Rim' Comic Con Poster Shows Guillermo Del Toro's Giant Robot Design

Guillermo del Toro has been very vocal in his promise about the subject of his new film Pacific Rim. That is, we know that this is his ode to Toho Studios films, and that he's been very vocal about his hopes to deliver the best giant robots and monsters ever put on screen. That's quite a task, and I'm ready to see him tackle it head-0n.

While we've seen images of Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, and Charlie Hunnam in their battle gear, now a Comic Con poster gives us a look at part of one of those giant robots. The Jaeger, as the robots are called, is truly huge. We might get a look at what these things are like in motion during the Hall H panel next Saturday in San Diego, but for now this poster is a great tease.

Pacific Rim is scheduled to open July 12, 2013.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
