'Sound Of My Voice' Trailer: What Mysteries Lie Within A Suburban Cult?

In Page 2 today, Pete mentioned that a new poster had been released for the indie cult/sci-fi film Sound of My Voice, but now we've got something better: a new trailer.

The film was one of the most anticipated of 2011 thanks to a breakout appearance at Sundance that year, but Fox Searchlight decided to hold the movie for this year. So it is one of the most anticipated movies of 2012 now. We saw a 12-minute clip from the movie about a month back, but this is the trailer debut.

As much as I liked the introductory 12-minute clip, in which documentary-making couple Peter (Christopher Denham) and Lorna (Nicole Vicius) attempt to infiltrate a mysterious group led by an enigmatic young woman named Maggie (Brit Marling), I think this trailer is a lot more effective in establishing just how quietly strange the movie might be. The very believably weird can be a lot more powerful than big, overblown strangeness. I that's especially so at a time like the present, when politics and public conversation about policy issues are so polarized, strange and, yeah, sometimes cult-like.

Apple has the HD trailer. More info is available at the official web site. Fox Searchlight will release Sound of My Voice on April 27.

Peter and Lorna, a young Silver Lake couple, delve into the underworld of a cult that meets in the San Fernando valley. At the center of the group is an enigmatic young woman named Maggie who never leaves her basement chamber. The members follow Maggie blindly—growing her food, obsessively sanitizing the house, giving her their own blood for transfusions. But why? We follow Peter and Lorna as they smuggle hidden cameras into Maggie's basement bent on exposing her as a charlatan and freeing the members from her spell.
