New Images From 'The Avengers' Feature Stoic And Heroic Poses But Reveal No New Details

We're only a few months away from the release of Marvel's The Avengers, which breaks new tentpole ground by bringing together characters from other big Marvel summer films, with a few new characters to round out the roster of an unlikely super-team.

But despite the approaching release date, we still haven't seen too much in the way of official materials. There's a brief teaser trailer, a couple international trailers and quite a few promo images, but most of those promo images look quite a lot alike. Here's a new batch of photos that is quite a lot like previous images, in that they show the heroes in individual poses, but don't really reveal anything about the film's action or story.

Empire has the images, and while the pics don't show off too much new material, Marvel president Kevin Feige does talk in Empire's accompanying feature about the movie. He doesn't reveal too much, but he does shoot down and/or evade some rumors about the movie.

Asked about the force assembled by Loki that the Avengers end up confronting, Feige says:

Who said they were aliens?... It's not Skrulls, I've been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we're not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.

He also addresses rumors that the Red Skull, the villain of Captain America: The First Avenger, will appear in the film:

Was [Red] Skull vaporised at the end of [Captain America: The First Avengers], or thrust into another realm? That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he's not in this one.

The Avengers opens on May 4th. [SHH]
