New Behind The Scenes Stills From Tarsem's Snow White Movie 'Mirror, Mirror'
The Great Snow White Race of 2011 resulted in two films: Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman, a Lord of the Rings-style action film starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, and Relativity's Mirror, Mirror, a lighter, more family-oriented comedy featuring Lily Collins, Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer.
Mirror, Mirror will be the first to theaters, with a March 16 release date. The first trailer for the film didn't convince me that director Tarsem had made a movie I'm going to be excited to see, but Mirror, Mirror could still end up being a decent family movie.
Now we've got a look at some behind the scenes images from the film, showing how Tarsem's all-stage built production came together. Check them out below.
THR has a big gallery of behind the scenes shots (you can see many more at that link), and also some quotes from producer Bernie Goldmann, who tries to downplay the competitive aspect of making this film while Universal made Snow White and the Huntsman. He says,
I know it seems like a race [to theaters], but on the inside, it was an immediate commitment. From the first day, Relativity said, 'We are making this movie,' and they never varied from this course.
These behind the scenes shots are neat for showing some of the process of turning a giant stage into a snow-covered forest for the film. I didn't think the shots seen in the trailer demonstrated that the result will be a great effect on film, but we'll see two months from now.
When Snow White's beauty wins the heart of the prince that she desperately pursues, the Queen banishes her to the forest, where a ravening man-eating beast hungrily awaits. Rescued by a band of diminutive highway robbers, Snow White grows into an indomitable young woman determined to take back her realm from the treacherous Queen.
