Casting Bits: Miley Cyrus In 'Hotel Transylvania,' Rufus Sewell In 'Paradise Lost,' Clive Owen In 'Recall' And More
Find it hard to keep up with what films are casting and which actors and actress are doing what? You're not the only one. It's all but impossible to keep up with everything, which is why we bring you Casting Bits. Today we've got a bunch of big names in smaller movies, a few studio productions sprinkled in and then a couple we missed in recent days. After the jump read about:
Working our way down from the top, Entertainment Weekly reported that Miley Cyrus will play Dracula's daughter Mavis in Genndy Tartakovsky's Hotel Transylvania. The film is about the famous vampire, voiced by Sandler, who creates the hotel and populates it with classic monsters to keep his daughter occupied. It's out next September and here's what her character will look like.
Next up, Alex Proyas continues to populate his action adaptation of Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost with evil looking men. He's already got Casey Affleck, Dominic Purcell and Djimon Hounsou (along with Bradley Cooper, who is less evil looking) and now we have confirmation that he has cast the imposing talent of Rufus Sewell, first rumored a couple months back. He'll play Samael, Lucifer's (Cooper) best friend who convinces him to wage war on Heaven. Variety first broke the news.
Paul Schrader is one of our most celebrated screenwriters, having written Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, and his latest film just gained Clive Owen, according to Variety. Owen will star in Recall, directed by Harold Becker, as a NSA agent trying to figure out how a hostage situation went wrong.
While films like Margin Call have been showing how the national economy crashed, Cities, directed by Roger Donaldson, will show the excess right before that. Clive Owen is also on board and now the film just picked up Kirsten Dunst and Orlando Bloom for undisclosed roles, most likely as very wealthy people who are about to have a very bad day. Odds are you've already heard about Arnold Schwarzenegger's action comeback film The Last Stand. What you might not know is one of the FBI agents in the Jee-woon Kim directed film will be the gorgeous Genesis Rodriguez. Variety reported the casting which may seem trivial at the moment for this 2013 film, but by the time it's out, she'll have appeared in several major films such as Man on a Ledge and Will Ferrell's Casa de mi Padre.
In an interview with XXL Magazine (via Cinemablend) the RZA (himself recently cast in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained) revealed fellow Wu Tang Clan member Raekwon has been writing a script about his cousin, the Ol' Dirty Bastard, for two years and that Eddie Griffin is likely to play the role. However, Tracy Morgan wants to be a part of it too and the RZA suggested they might both play the role. This is a movie to keep on your radar for sure. Read more at the above links.
Finally, Albert Hughes' crime drama Broken City is getting ready to shoot with a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones. According to Variety though, while Wahlberg is the star, the two female leads will be played by relative unknowns Alona Tal and Natalie Martinez.
