The Collected Voice Cameos Of James Cameron

Alfred Hitchcock did it, so why not James Cameron? Hitchcock loved to cameo in his own films and, though many people don't know it, Cameron does the same. Cameron, however, didn't physically appear on Judgement Day or live on Pandora. Instead the Oscar-winning director of the two most successful films in history has made a voice cameo in every single movie he's ever done.

The website FILMdetail has put together an great six-minute video highlighting this phenomenon and you'll chuckle at some of the places Cameron's voice pops up. Check it out after the jump.

A huge thanks to FILMdetail for this great video. Here goes.

Here's who Cameron voices in each film. Watch the video for more details.

  • The Terminator – He's the hotel clerk when Sarah and Kyle check in.
  • Aliens – He's part of the voice of the Queen Alien.
  • The Abyss – He voices a pilot asking for clearance.
  • Terminator 2: Judgement Day – He provides some of the T-1000's screams at the end.
  • True Lies – He's one of the pilots of the harrier jets firing on the terrorists.
  • Titanic – He asks a passenger about an iceberg but also appears physically in the background.
  • Avatar – He's on the radio as the human forces attack Hometree.
  • Do you agree with all of these cameos or is FILMdetail stretching? Sounded pretty convincing to me.

I have a feeling this isn't so much an ego thing as a necessity that turned into something of a personal joke. I'm sure when it came to Cameron's first few films, he probably just needed unique voices and figured he'd throw a few lines of ADR in there. Then, as it kept happening, he probably thought a few Easter eggs couldn't hurt. I sincerely doubt it's something that he'd be upset about if the streak was broken. What do you think? And do you think it's obnoxious when filmmakers appear in their own movies, not including when their the star like Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood or George Clooney?
