Casting Bits: Meg Foster In Rob Zombie's 'Lords Of Salem;' Lindsay Pulispher In 'Bonnie & Clyde;' Robert Knepper In 'R.I.P.D.'

Rob Zombie is moving forward on The Lords of Salem, his upcoming horror film that involves witchcraft and terror in Salem, MA. He's announced the first bit of casting: Meg Foster will play "Margaret Morgan, the leader of a secret coven of witches in Salem." Fans of John Carpenter's They Live will recognize Foster immediately; nice to see Zombie continuing his practice of hiring actors from some of his favorite films. After the break, True Blood's Lindsay Pulsipher gets one of the controversial lead roles in The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, and R.I.P.D. gets a new actor.

The Story of Bonnie and Clyde became infamous over two years ago when Hilary Duff was set to play Bonnie, the role made famous by Faye Dunaway in Arthur Penn's 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde. But Duff dropped out and now Lindsay Pulsipher, who is shooting The Hatfields and McCoys right now, has taken the role. Kevin Zegers was once set to play Clyde Barrow, but has also dropped out; no one has replaced him at this point. Can't say this casting changes my basic opinion of the project at all, but 'wait and see' is probably the best bet. Maybe it'll end up being a good comedy.Tonya S. Holly wrote the script and is producing; the film will shoot later this year in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Or, it will hopefully shoot. Since this has been in development for years, I'm not yet holding my breath. [THR]

Finally, in a bit of late-breaking cast news for Robert Schwentke's comic adaptation R.I.P.D., now shooting in Boston, we've learned that Prison Break's Robert Knepper will play one of the film's 'deados,' aka a spirit who doesn't quite want to give up his time on Earth. That means he's an antagonist to the two ghostly cops played by Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. Not having read the comic, this one sounds utterly ludicrous. But then again, something like The Frighteners sounds pretty ludicrous, too, and ended up being a lot of fun. Fingers crossed. [THR]
