'The Double' Trailer: See An Entire Movie In Two Minutes

If you have any interest at all in seeing The Double, in which Richard Gere plays a former CIA operative partnered with a young FBI agent (Topher Grace) to hunt down the head of a Russian ring of assassins, I'd say skip this trailer. Because in less than three minutes it might not show you the full movie — there has to be more to The Double than this — but it sure feels like it does. If you're not that invested, or just morbidly curious as to how a trailer can be totally artless, then carry on past the jump.

Beyond the simple fact of seeming to give away crucial plot twists, this trailer makes one of the biggest twists seem like something so obvious that a child could figure it out in the first act. Is there anyone who doesn't see the trailer's reveal coming?

Beyond the fact of the trailer seeming to be as revealing as a dress made of ziploc bags, there's the question of Richard Gere's performance. This makes him look like a massive ham, to put not too fine a point on it. That's a tendency that he's had, but here it seems to be way over the top. Might be worth a look for that alone.

In THE DOUBLE, the mysterious murder of a US senator bearing the distinctive trademark of the legendary Soviet assassin "Cassius," forces Paul Shepherdson (Richard Gere), a retired CIA operative, to team with rookie FBI agent, Ben Geary (Topher Grace), to solve the crime. Having spent his career chasing Cassius, Shepherdson is convinced his nemesis is long dead, but is pushed to take on the case by his former supervisor, Tom Highland (Martin Sheen). Meanwhile, Agent Geary, who wrote his Master's thesis on Shepherdson's pursuit of the Soviet killer, is certain that Cassius has resurfaced. As Shepherdson and Geary work their way through crimes both past and present, they discover that Cassius may not be the person they always thought him to be, forcing both to re-examine everything and everyone around them.
