LOL: Screenwriter Argues For Casting Peter Dinklage As M.O.D.O.K. In 'Captain America 2'

I don't actually believe this for a second, but it's a slow day so far, and any M.O.D.O.K. news is great news. So here you go: Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America 2 co-writer Christopher Markus is thinking of a way to make the Cap sequel very interesting. Namely, he's talking up the idea of casting Peter Dinklage as wacky Marvel villain M.O.D.O.K., aka the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing.

The LA Times talked to the writer, who said,

I love MODOK and I think you could make a terrifying movie with MODOK but nobody seems to be on my side at the momentum. [sic] I will win you over to Peter Dinklage as MODOK. If he came around the corner and you saw him floating there you would be terrified. It would be amazing.

Yes. It would be amazing. M.O.D.O.K. is kind of a joke among Marvel fans because the character, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in '67s, is so absurd. But he's also a lot of fun, and fits well into the on-screen world created for Captain America. The Marvel wiki history of the character notes his origins:

Average technician George Tarleton found his fate forever changed thanks to a random selection by his boss, the Scientist Supreme of A.I.M., who needed a unique, bio-engineered "living computer" in order to plumb the mysteries of the Cosmic Cube. Tarleton was subjected to hideous experiments, mutating his body into a massive-headed being possessing superhuman intelligence and extraordinary psionic powers, and the process drove him mad. Given the code-name MODOC ("Mobile Organism Designed Only for Computing"), Tarleton instead turned on his superiors, slaying them all and declaring himself Scientist Supreme. Moreover, he changed his name to MODOK, with the "K" standing now for "Killing."

If that isn't one of the best origin stories in comics, I don't know what is. And, yes, Peter Dinklage is a wonderful actor and would be great fun in the role. I can't imagine it will ever happen, but we can dream.
