Casting Bits: Stacy Keach In 'The Bourne Legacy;' Forest Whitaker In 'Vipaka;' Katrina Bowden In 'Nurse 3D'
Stacy Keach is the latest actor added to the growing cast of Tony Gilroy's The Bourne Legacy, which stars Jeremy Renner as a new ultra-capable agent who emerges from the same training program that created Matt Damon's Jason Bourne. We don't know Keach's role, but do know that he will play alongside (or against) Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton in the film that acts as a parallel storyline to the three existing Bourne films. After the break, you'll find information about Forest Whitaker's role as one of the two leads of a voodoo thriller, and Katrina Bowden joins the Paz de la Huerta exploitation picture Nurse 3D.
Over the past few years, Forest Whitaker hasn't let his television commitments (to E.R., The Shield and Criminal Minds) get in the way of taking film roles, even if the film roles he has booked haven't always been standouts. His latest gig for the big screen is a supernatural thriller that has a bit of potential. Whitaker is starring in Vipaka, a voodoo-themed psychological thriller in which " two adversaries go head-to-head in a game that will test each man's belief in what they're certain is the truth." Anthony Mackie and Sanaa Lathan also star, with Mackie presumably playing the other lead opposite Whitaker. That's a promising enough pairing to make this seem like a pretty good idea. [Variety]
Finally, 30 Rock's Katrina Bowden continues to take the less obvious film roles (she's also in Piranha 3DD) by jumping into Nurse 3D alongside Paz de la Huerta. Both play nurses (surprised?) with Paz playing Abby Russell, "a beautiful, dedicated nurse with a sinister side, and a secret life's work in which she targets and punishes dishonest men." Katrina Bowden's character will likely be a bit more wholesome. Too bad. Douglas Aarniokoski directs. [Deadline]
