Diablo Cody To Direct 'Lamb Of God'

Briefly: Diablo Cody and Mandate Pictures have collaborated twice in the past: on Juno, for which she won a screenwriting Oscar, and on Young Adult, which Jason Reitman recently directed based on her script. Now the company is backing her directorial debut, a film she also wrote called Lamb of God. Variety had some of the first details, and a press release gives the official description:

The comedy follows a young conservative religious woman who loses her faith after a plane crash, decides to go to Las Vegas to live the life of a sinner, and on her journey finds her way back to her faith.

The film is about to begin casting and the press release says it has been fast-tracked by Mandate, so we can potentially expect a few big casting decisions in the next couple weeks. There is no studio partnered for distribution at this point, but I expect that won't take long to set up, especially if Diablo Cody can secure a recognizable cast.

Update: Diablo Cody posted about the film, writing:

It's about a woman who survives a plane crash and loses her faith in everything. (Comedy gold!) Seriously though, it's not the cynicism-fest implied by the log line. It's a nice Christmas story.
