Did Kevin Smith Just Cast Colin Hanks In 'Hit Somebody' Over Twitter?

With Kevin Smith now talking for hours every single day on his own podcast internet station called S.I.R., things have obviously gotten pretty hectic for the soon-to-be-retired filmmaker. Hectic enough that he's taken to Twitter to do a little haphazard casting. Wednesday, a fan asked Smith about Colin Hanks and Smith threw out the notion that he wanted the actor (best known for roles in Orange County, King Kong and the TV show The Good Guys) to appear in the upcoming hockey comedy Hit Somebody. Hanks, a big tweeter himself, saw the mention and let Smith know "if you're serious count me in." And just like that, Smith might have another addition to his ever expanding and impressive cast.

Here are the two tweets in question, captured for your viewing pleasure (or you can just click here and here)

I particularly like Hanks' attempts to bribe Smith with Wayne Gretzky memorabilia, which will probably work.

If Hanks joins the film, he's a fine addition to what is quickly becoming a very good cast. Smith has already confirmed Red State stars Nicholas Braun, Kyle Gallner and Michael Angarano will appear in the movie and has alluded to the fact that Michael Parks, Melissa Leo, John Goodman as well as his good friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon could all possibly join up.

Considering Smith is busy with S.I.R., Red State hasn't even been officially released and Smith's alluded to the fact that he's not totally done with the script (though he has released a few choice scenes), Hit Somebody won't see the light of day until 2012 at the earliest. Smith has said it will be his last film though and, if that's the case, the longer we have to wait the better.
