New Behind The Scenes Image And Info Tidbits For 'Transformers: Dark Of The Moon'

So now even Michael Bay is admitting that the second Transformers movie was garbage. (More on that in a different article to come.) But the flipside of that admission is enthusiasm for the third film, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The director says this is a "lean and mean" picture, with, as the LA Times describes it, "more of a small-team, commando tendion." Or an American-soil version of Black Hawk Down that just happens to have giant robots.

A bit more info after the break.

That LA Times article has that set photo above, and spends a lot of time talking in general terms about the fact that the film is shooting in 3D. (Check the article for that info.) But it also mentions "sequences featuring a team of glide-suit commandos who dip between skyscrapers like a black-ops version of flying squirrels" and says that "a digital ghost of John F. Kennedy and the archive-reel visage of Walter Cronkite will play parts in Bay's new lunar adventure."

And, with respect to the tone, this film sounds like it will be more focused. The director says,

This one, there's nothing mystical about it. It's a good old-fashioned mystery and it's a tougher movie ... it's funny but it's not a wisecrack-funny; it's funnier in the situation.

I was definitely not on the fan train for the second film, but have to admit that I'm curious about this one. Some of that interest has to do with understanding that 3D isn't going anywhere just yet, so I want to see different directors play with the format. I'm particularly interested in seeing ones who were previously resistant finding tech that they can work with. Transformers: Dark of the Moon falls squarely into that category.
