Three More Added To David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo'
Hot off the success of The Social Network, director David Fincher is currently directing the American remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. We already know the adaptation of the popular book by Stieg Larsson will star Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander and Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist plus Fincher just announced that actors Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Steven Berkoff (A Clockwork Orange) and David Dencik, who appears in the original Swedish film, will join a cast that already includes Robin Wright Penn, Christopher Plummer and Stellan Skarsgård. Hit the jump for more. Fincher broke the news of his new actors in an interview with Swedish website SvD. He also talked a bit about the film, saying that he's so early in the process "I have not had time to figure out some cliché answers yet to use when I asked about it." He also urged people to know that he loves the original film but they are adapting the book, not the movie, so it will be different. "I'm looking to try to catch Sweden," Fincher said." I hope I can find an atmosphere reminiscent of Chinatown."
As to who these three actors are playing, just based on their looks it seems like Richardson might be Harriet, the missing girl that sets the whole story in motion and Berkoff could be Lisbeth's caretaker Nils Bjurman, a real creep of a man. As for Dencik, he played Janne Dahlman, the publisher of Blomkvist's magazine, in the original film so maybe he's reprising the role as a nod to the fans. This all pure speculation, however.
Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is scheduled for release December 21, 2011. Are you guys excited to see Fincher's take on this material or worried that he's doing a remake of such a popular book and film series?
