The Avengers: The Real Movie Gets A Start Date While A Fan-Made Trailer Teases The '50s Version That Never Was

So The Avengers is really happening, and Marvel's hopefully mighty team–up movie now has a start date: Superhero Hype got info that says The Avengers will shoot in February 2011. We don't know how long the Joss Whedon-directed project will be before cameras, nor exactly where it is shooting. (LA most likely.)

We do know the cast:  Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson.

But what about the 1950s version of The Avengers? That one never actually existed, but a fan-made trailer teases the film anyway.

Via Blastr (formerly SciFi Wire) comes this user-made trailer for The Avengers, circa 1952. Much of the footage used is from '50s sci-fi, but there are clips in there from the other classic Avengers, at least one Bond film, and quite a few other sources. (A no-prize goes to the first person to ID all of it.)

The footage is all graded to look more or less era-appropriate, but the titles on the piece really sell it, especially the stuff taken directly from classic Marvel and (I believe) Atlas comics logos. Great stuff, and probably more satisfying than the Comic Con Avengers teaser.
