Breaking Bad Director To Helm Some Of The Walking Dead?
Briefly: Quick, what is one of the most unexpectedly fantastic-looking things we've seen lately? Right: images from the pilot of The Walking Dead, directed by Frank Darabont. (None too surprising there.) While we haven't seen any actual footage from the adaptation of Robert Kirkman's comic, frequent Stephen King collaborator Darabont seems to be going all out based on still photos.
But we've known that Mr. Darabont wouldn't be around to direct the whole six-episode order of The Walking Dead's first season, and now there's word that one of the short season's directors might be Michelle MacLaren, producer on The X-Files and director of four episodes of Breaking Bad.
I haven't actually seen Breaking Bad yet (I know, I know) but conventional wisdom has it that the show is one of the best things to hit TV, period. So (a) AMC is working with a known quantity in the form of MacLaren, and (b) that is probably a very, very good thing. I'm sure folks will sound off in the comments with respect to where MacLaren's episodes fit in on the Breaking Bad greatness scale, but on the face of it, this sounds like good news.
