David Wain, Ken Marino And Paul Rudd Team Up Again For Wanderlust, Starring Jennifer Aniston

Fans of Role Models and Wet Hot American Summer, take note and rejoice: David Wain will direct Wanderlust, a comedy written by Wain, Paul Rudd and Ken Marino. Rudd and Jennifer Aniston will star, with Judd Apatow producing.

The project came up a few days ago when Apatow said he would be working with Wain, Rudd and Marino on an unspecified comedy. Universal has picked up the project, which will follow "follow a married couple who tries to escape modern society and ends up in a hippie commune." Rudd and Aniston are obviously the couple, and the commune should be reason enough for Marino and plenty of other David Wain regulars to show up in small roles. And a hippie commune sounds like fertile ground for the sort of comedy that Wain, Rudd and Marino can do so well.

As far as I'm concerned, this is fantastic. Apatow producing will hopefully give Wain & Co. leeway to do whatever the hell they want to do. I'm so happy that Wain walked away from the Meet the Parents sequel Little Fockers to do a film like this one. I would have hated to see him mired in a movie like that. (What does this mean for Too Cool to Be Forgotten? That seemed like an outside chance to begin with, but maybe it will happen after Wanderlust.)

This could be part of a good little career resurgence for Aniston, who didn't quite get a bump from The Bounty Hunter. While a Wain/Marino/Rudd comedy might not be a massive box office earner, it does have a good chance of turning into a film that people love and go back to more than once. Everyone wants a hit, but there's got to be value in being central to a comedy that people genuinely like.

And she's in Horrible Bosses, in which she and Colin Farrell both play two of the three bosses that Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and an uncast third character decide to kill. With Seth Gordon directing that one could go either way, but I'm intrigued by the idea and the cast.
