Movie Trailer: Brett Ratner's Remix Of Bollywood Film Kites

When Harvey Weinstein used to have Hong Kong films dramatically altered for US release, the different cuts drew uproar from fans. Brett Ratner is doing something slightly different for the Bollywood film Kites. He's overseen an edit that trims about forty minutes of the original running time. But he's added something, too: the word remix. Why didn't Harvey think of that?

There isn't a great deal of difference between the trailer for Kites: The Remix and the version released for the regular cut of the film. One of the music cues is different, some of the dubbing sounds different, and one scene appears to have been degraded to look like it is being broadcast on television, with a 'breaking news' label overlaid. Oh, and there's the subtitled dialogue, with the rather hateful "I am a stupid girl" joke, which seems so like a caricature of something in a Ratner film, at the very least.

Then again, this whole thing looks like a parody of Ratner's films. The super-glossy cinematography, for one, and the collection of elements recycled from other films. This movie looks like it was a remix before Ratner ever got to it. Then again, there does appear to be an action sequence with hot air balloons, so that gets points.
