The Green Hornet Pushed Back To 2011, Will Be Released In 3D

Sony has announced that they have decided to push the release date of Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet back three weeks. The reason given is that Sony is releasing the film in 3D and the original December 22nd 2010 release date was overcrowded with 3D films.

3D Films opening around that time include: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader hits on December 10th, TRON Legacy and Yogi Bear are both being released on December 17th, Gulliver's Travels hits on December 22nd, and Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch is due out on Christmas. The new date, January 14th 2011 – Martin King Day Weekend, will distance the film from other 3D releases and give the studio time to convert the film to 3D.

As far as I can tell, the Joss Whedon-scripted Drew Goddard-directed horror film Cabin in the Woods is also set for the same date. It was also pushed back a couple months ago in order to convert the film into 3D.

I just hope this late decision to convert the film into 3D won't turn into another Clash of the Titans. /Film reader may recall that the Titans remake was converted into 3D in under two months via outsourcing, and looked horrible. I'm still not sure post production 3D conversion can look good for a live-action film that doesn't carry a lot of computer animated elements. One thing is for sure, Warner Bros rushed Clash through the process and it didn't look pretty.
