The Thorn In The Heart Movie Trailer: Meet Michel Gondry's Family

Michel Gondry has quite a few projects coming up, from The Green Hornet to some sort of project with Bjork, and Megalomania, an animated film based on the imagination of his son. In the meantime, however, he's got The Thorn in the Heart, a documentary about his family that evidently features some of Gondry's characteristic flights of fancy. Check out the trailer, after the break.Apple has the trailer in HD. The Thorn in the Heart appeared at Cannes last year, but we haven't heard much about it in the many months since. The film is technically about Gondry's aunt, Suzette, and her career as a schoolteacher from 1952 to 1986. But the film seems to take on a slight tinge of Terry Zwigoff's Crumb (albeit with a much lighter tone, I'd expect) as Gondry uncovers a wide array of stories from his family's past.

Michel Gondry's newest film, THE THORN IN THE HEART (L'Epine dans le Coeur), further propels his filmography into the realm of the unvisted with a personal look at the life of Gondry family matriarch, his aunt Suzette Gondry, and her relationship with her son, Jean—Yves. Michel examines Suzette's years as a schoolteacher and her life in rural France. During the course of filming the documentary, new family stories are unearthed and Michel uses his camera to explore them in a subtle and sensitive way. THE THORN IN THE HEART had its world premiere screening in the official selection at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
