Noah Baumbach Writing Another Project With Wes Anderson?
Noah Baumbach, whose new film Greenberg hits theaters later this month, says that he has been working on another screenplay with collaborator Wes Anderson. For those of you who don't know, Baumbach co-wrote both The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Fantastic Mr. Fox with Anderson, who produced Baumbach's The Squid and the Whale. Considering that two out of three of those films are Oscar-nominated (with all three films being awesome), I'm definitely interested in see any collaboration between the pair in the future. So what is this latest screenplay about?
Baumbach told The Playlist that they have "a partly written story, ideas and scenes" that they've "been talking about for a long time," even before Life Aquatic. Baumbach wouldn't reveal much about the story however: "It has a basic premise, it has a lot of characters, it has a lot of story actually, but these things transform all the time. You think the [story] is one thing and then it turns out to be another." But before you get too excited for another Baumbach/Anderson collaboration, the filmmaker was clear to point out that it might not ever be made into a screenplay, nevermind end up on the big screen:
"It's becoming kind of an ongoing document of our friendship, it's something we keep adding to every time we see each other. At least once or twice [when we meet up] they'll be something that cracks us up that we'll go, 'Oh, that should go into the script,' but I 'm not necessarily sure if we'll end up finishing it. In some ways it's more fun to just add to it."
I hope it snowballs into something substantial, so that the duo is forced to put pen to paper.
