Rumor Killer: Why Chris Pine Probably Won't Be Cast As Captain America
Cinema Spy has started a new rumor claiming that Chris Pine (who played James T Kirk in JJ Abrams Star Trek) is the front runner to play Captain America in Joe Johnson's The First Avenger: Captain America. Wow, what short attention spans we all must have. It was only a week ago when the director revealed at The Wolfman junket press conference that he is planning to cast an unknown in the role, and surround him with some bigger name stars.
Here is what I wrote:
Captain America will definitely be played by an American actor, Johnston says he wants to discover a complete unknown and surround him with more prominent names. Johnson says he's testing five or six guys, "The youngest is 23, the oldest is 32. Most of the guys in the war are just kids, 18 or 19, but we want to go a little bit older." Casting needs to be complete by March 1st 2010
Aside from not fitting into the "complete unknown" category, Pine is 29-years-old, and is at the very older part of the age spectrum. Johnson was clear about wanting someone 18, 19 or just a little bit older, since most of the guys at war were just kids. Would Pine make a good Captain America? That question is debatable. I would love to see what he could do with the role. But sorry, I just don't think it's gonna happen. I could be wrong... we'll see
