Shrek Forever After Trailer And Poster

So, there's a fourth Shrek movie. After Shrek 3, that might not be a good thing. Appropriately, there is also now a trailer and a poster for the fourth Shrek movie. Shrek Forever After, announced as the final episode of the series, will massacre your eyeballs with 3D CGI goodness. Oh, wait. No. That's Avatar. This is a weird fantasyland remake of It's a Wonderful Life, with fart and fat jokes.

I've got a cold today and am in a generally hateful, misanthropic state of mind, but there's something about a trailer that loudly proclaims the film advertised is the final one of the series. In other words, "we're almost done, folks, and soon you won't have to suffer us any longer!"

And since there's a possible Puss in Boots spinoff and the chance that Dreamworks could always go back to the Shrek money well in the future, I expect this is the last Shrek film in much the same way that So Long and Thanks For All the Fish was the last Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book.

So, what we see here is some of the aftermath of a deal Shrek makes with Rumplestiltskin to get his mojo back, which results in a bizarro version of the land of Far Far Away where Shrek never existed. Donkey doesn't know him, Puss in Boots is fat and lazy, and everything is in 3D. Crazy, I know.

I'll say this: the animation here looks pretty damn good. Dreamworks may not have the lifeblood of CGI movies down in the same way Pixar does, but it has the technological muscle and know-how to pump out a film that has a nice, glossy sheen.

I've embedded the first YouTube version to go up below, but you should check it out in HD at Apple. The poster is underneath the embed.
